This post is a story about logo of Chinese Blogger Conference. I wrote it in August 20, 2005. Last week Undersound (Frank Dai) helps me check it. Thank you very much, Undersound!
In June, I visited Yunnan for one week. During the short period, I visited many beautiful cities and landscapes including Kunming, Dali, Lijiang Old Town, Jade Dragon Snow Mountains and Shangrila.
The old Lijiang has a history of 800 years with the Jade Dragon Mountain as its culture background. For its Dongba culture, well-preserved landscaped town in ancient architecture and tourism attractions, Lijiang, which is an ancient city in the remote mountain valley, has been recognized by UNESCO as the World Heritage Site and World Tourism City.
When I visit Lijiang, I took great interest in Dongba culture. Dongba pictographic language is a mysterious ancient picture-writing. It has no parallel counterpart in the world on which Dongba culture based. There has been a boom in the development of cultural crafts of Dongba pictography, saying and paintings as special souvenirs for tourists in Lijiang.
In a nice and cool night, I bought a book entitled Appreciation of Classic Naxi Dongba Saying compiled and translated into Chinese by He Pinzheng Who is working for Dongba Culture Research Institute of Lijiang. In the foreword of this book, someone wrote: 'Insightful proverbs, idioms and saying passed down over the long history of human civilization are cultural heritage. They embody the ideals and wisdom of a people and reflect its profound thought on the universe and the meaning of life.'
For modern people who did writing on Internet, blog is an easy tool to publish personal story and thinking. I believe weblogs should to be a unique landscape of human culture of this kind.
After back to Fuzhou for one month, I talked about plan of Chinese Blogger Conference with other members of Social Brain Foundation. At the beginning, I designed two drafts of logo for this event, but I got new inspiration at online chat soon. I suggested that maybe we could design a logo by Dongba pictographic language. I did it.
This logo is a letter of Dongba pictographic language which means ‘net’.
Here are many peoples in this country with a great diversity of culture. Internet is more powerful tool and environment to incubate new culture ecosystem which means everybody is somebody. This slogan was create by Yining.
I believe the personal is the social and identity is diversity. It is new time.
